Euro Auctions' Leeds '˜January sale' proves a truly International winner

The catalogue included a large inventory of agricultural equipment and general machinery coming from leading consignors that included Charles Wilson, A-Plant, One Call Hire and Zeppelin Rentals. A Volvo L180G wheeled loader made the top hammer price of £150,000 and various equipment lots went for bargain prices, including several at under £1,000.

Featured lots included over 50 near new, low hours, 2013 and 2014 T6 and T7 tractors direct from the New Holland dealer network that were sold at the auction, achieving prices between £61,000 and £31,000, representing an average saving of between 20% to 25% on their new list prices.

The farming equipment category comprised a total of almost 750 individual lots and accounted for over £4 million of the overall sale. Other consignments in this auction that proved popular included telehandlers, hedge cutters, slurry equipment, dump trailers, low loaders and tillage equipment, with 20-ton excavators proving the most popular amongst general equipment buyers, followed by wheeled excavators.

A new element for this auction was a large consignment of ex-hire power tools (over 1,000 lots), which necessitated a third auction ring being operated. These attracted significant customer interest with many of the consigned lots achieving strong hammer prices.

This Euro Auctions sale set significant new records with a 20% increase in bidders. The sale attracted real international interest with almost 50% of all bidders coming from over 60 countries outside the UK; with Ireland, Poland, Scandinavia, Germany, France and Spain all having large contingents, many placing winning bids. Bidders from the Middle East also accounted for 4% of sales, with North America taking 4% and African sales being 2%.

What was also encouraging was that almost 200 first time registrations were recorded and over 100 made successful winning bids. This proves that there is increasing interest in plant and machinery sales with new bidders coming forward and re-confirming a consistent rise in the popularity for auctions.

There was also a massive rise in online activity, represented around a 25% increase in web traffic and in keeping with technology trends 45% were conducted on either mobiles or via tablets rather than desktop machines.

“Our Leeds auctions, as with other international sales we hold, are going from strength to strength, increasingly attracting some fantastic lots from top‑flight manufacturers and users plus creating a truly International following,” stated Jonnie Keys, General Manager of Euro Auctions.

“We were delighted that the New Holland dealer network chose Euro Auctions to manage the sale of their near new, low hours tractors and while it’s quite unusual for such a high volume to be released onto the market in one tranche, we still achieved some good hammer prices on them.”

Sellers are getting the best price for the lots they consign to our auctions, while buyers are often able to secure some real deals – so it’s a win win scenario.

“The growing number of new bidders registering also shows a real appetite to competitively secure machinery that will enable them to meet their needs and in many cases expand their businesses. And online bidding continues grow in popularity with over a third of all lots now being bought via this route, a good testament to the trust our online system has earned.”
