Excellent trade for cattle at Rathfriland

There was an excellent trade in all sorts of cattle on Friday but the weanling section really excelled.

These sold to 291p/k for three Red Lim steers, 240k each and £700 each. A further 2 lots from the same Banbridge herd sold at £600 for 214k each or 280p/k. An Edenagarry farmer sold a 286k Ch male at £785 or 275p/k. Male weanlings sold to £885 for a Ballinaskeagh farmer and to £860 for females from Warringstown.

In the bullock section £1165 was paid to a Shanrod farmer for a 30 month old Lim 670k.

A top per kilo of 214 pence was recorded from the same farm for a 350k lot at £750. A Katesbridge farmer topped the heifer section at £910 for a 540k Angus. Fat cows sold to £950 for a 804k Ch from Kilkeel.

Dropped calves cleared up to £400 for a Lim bull from Ballyward. Sim and Ch bull calves each to £390 for farmers from Edentrillick and Downpatrick. Lim heifer calves to £375 for a Katesbridge farmer.
