Fire at Co Antrim barn '˜under investigation'

A blaze which started in a shed in Co Antrim in the early hours of Monday is 'under investigation', a spokesman from the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service has said.

In a statement released this morning a NIFRS spokesman said they received a call at 00.09am on February 1 to a report of a barn well alight at the Ballyrobin Road area of Aldergrove.

“Two Fire Appliances from Antrim Fire Station, two Fire Appliances from Lisburn Fire Station, one Fire Appliance from Ballymena Fire Station, one Fire Appliance from Crumlin Fire Station and one Fire Appliance from Whitla Fire Station were deployed to the scene.

“Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, using jets, hosereel jets and a mechanical digger dealt with a well alight barn in the area.

“There was no livestock in the barn, but Firefighters moved a large quantity of dry hay from the premises.”

He said one residential premises in the area received slight damage, but there were no reports of any injuries.

“Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service finished at the scene at 6:12pm on Monday 1st February and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.”
