Firearm and ammunition found in north Belfast

A 57-year-old man has been arrested following the discovery of a suspected firearm and ammunition.

They were found at a house in the Crumlin Road area of north Belfast on Thursday.

Detective Inspector Pete Mullan said: “A proactive search was carried out on Thursday morning when the firearm and ammunition were found and taken away for further examination.

“A 50-year-old woman and 16-year-old male were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances.

“Both were later released that evening on police bail pending further enquiries.

“The 57-year-old man was arrested this morning at Musgrave Police Station on suspicion of possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances and possessing ammunition in suspicious circumstances. He has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

“This search and find is another example of our ongoing commitment to protecting communities and keeping people safe.”
