Firefighters called to ‘large incident’ at Carrickfergus

Firefighters are dealing with what they have described as a “large incident” at an industrial unit in Carrickfergus.

A spokesperson for the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) said they received a call at shortly before 3.30am this morning (Saturday) regarding atn incident at Abbey Upholsterers at Meadowbank Road.

“There are currently nine pumping appliances plus specialist appliances, with a total of 73 firefighters in attendance,” the spokesperson said.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Local residents have been encouraged to keep their windows closed due to smoke in the area.
