Firm trade for dairy stock Markethill

The 30 dairy stock at Markethill on Tuesday 16th February sold in a firm trade to £1260 for a calved heifer from a Aughnacloy farmer.

A local farmer received £1230 and £1210 for calved heifers.

Several more sold from £900 to £1010 each.

CULL COWS: The 130 cull cows sold in a steady trade with beef-bred cows/heifers to £151 for 710k at £1070. Cows to £138 for 616k at £850. Main demand from £110 to £130 per 100 kilos. Fleshed Friesian cows from £95 to £117 for 592k at £690. Young Friesians from £110 to £129 for 716k at £920. Second quality Friesians from £80 to £90 per 100 kilos with the poorest lots from £55 to £75 per 100 kilos.

CALVES: An entry of 215 lots in the calf ring sold in an exceptionally good demand for both beef-bred calves and friesians. Good quality bulls to £365 for a Lim. Main demand from £240 to £315. Heifer calves sold in the best trade for some time to £355 for a char. All good quality heifers from £220 to £325. Friesian bulls (3-4 month olds) sold from £120 to £160. Young friesians from £40 to £90 each.
