Flute band's tribute to tragic Vikki

Tributes have flooded in for 25-year-old Vikki McKeown who died within weeks of receiving a brain tumour diagnosis.

Days before the final year occupational therapy student’s death on Tuesday, the Pride of Shankill Flute Band - of which she had been a member - played outside her Shankill home in a bid to lift her spirits.

After the band added a link of their impromptu performance outside tragic Vikki’s house to their Facebook site, Vikki’s mother - Sharon McKeown - also said on Facebook: “U made my girl so happy that day x”.

Later, a band spokesman said they wanted to extend their “deepest sympathy to the entire family circle”.

“Vikki was a member of the band, and a very important one at that. She had given up the band a while back, but once you’re a part of our family, you’re forever a member, with pride at heart.”

In recent weeks Vikki’s sister, Reah McKeown, had started a Crowdfunding page to help raise money to buy “an Alkaline Water Pump” to help her. She then said Vikki had been diagnosed with a grade 4 brain tumour and asked people to watch out for having “a smell and taste of metal”, as Vikki did.

Vikki will be buried in Carnmoney Main Cemetery on Saturday after a ceremony in her home. She is survived by her mum Sharon, father Gary, sister Reah and fiancée James.
