The new WBA featherweight champion – bearing the bruises of a hard-fought victory over the previously undefeated Leo Santa Cruz – happily got the drinks in at an Irish bar in Manhattan on Sunday night.

His down-to-earth generosity and effortlessly humble attitude seems to have won him a new legion of supporters in a sport often dominated by enormous egos.

Frampton even joined in a sing-song with the fans who travelled from Northern Ireland in their droves to cheer him on.

The overwhelming consensus of those commenting on his down-to-earth sense of decency hailed the 29-year-old as “a class act”.

Frampton said he didn’t mind putting on a free bar for the fans as he hoped his new superstar status meant he wouldn’t have to spend much on drink in the future.

“I think this win means I won’t have to buy a pint for the next 20 years,” he said.

The Strictly Boxing Fans Twitter page posted television footage of the get together at Annie Moore’s bar with the message: “Brilliant! Frampton celebrating his win with fans at a pub where he paid for the drinks too! Frampton’s on fire!”

Among the first to offer online congratulations was Frampton’s wife Christine, simply saying: “Just so proud.”
