Frazer opposes official's IRA compensation talks visit

The Daily Telegraph reported on Sunday that Foreign Office Minister Tobias Ellwood says hopes of a stable new government in Libya means talks on securing compensation for British victims of Gaddafi-sponsored IRA attacks can begin. Mr Ellwood told The Telegraph that he had met new Prime Minister designate of Libya, Fayez el-Sarraj, and raised the case for compensation.

Mr Ellwood said he would be meeting with Northern Ireland victims within weeks and arranging talks between family representatives and the Libyan authorities.

But victims’ campaigner Willie Frazer said: “That is not what we were promised. They promised that as soon as there was a Libyan government they would facilitate us going over there. There is no point coming here to tell us what we already know.”
