Free event offers details of new cancer treatments

Members of the public are invited to attend an event at Queen's University Belfast on Wednesday at which medical researchers will explain the work they do on breast an ovarian cancer.

The free event will give details of advances in detecting the disease, new treatments, and the support available to patients – including those women who are dealing with the possibility of inherited breast or ovarian cancer.

The gathering will take place from 7pm to 9pm at the Queen’s Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology (located at the City Hospital site, 97 Lisburn Road).

Speaking about the event, Professor Richard Kennedy, McClay Professor of Medical Oncology at Queen’s, said: “More than 1,200 new cases of breast cancer and 188 cases of ovarian cancer are diagnosed each year in Northern Ireland, but thanks to developments in diagnosis and treatment, more people than ever are surviving these diseases.

“That is due, in no small part, to the work of Queen’s researchers.”

Tea, coffee and refreshments will be provided.
