Friends of tragic carers asked to '˜celebrate' their lives at funerals

Friends of the tragic care workers killed in an horrific road traffic collision outside Randalstown have appealed for those attending their funerals to 'celebrate' their lives.

Michelle McStravick, 35, from Randalstown - who had a teenage daughter - died along with 56-year-old Lorraine Clyde, who was from the Antrim area, following the incident on the Church Road shortly before 8am on Monday.

Mrs Clyde was well-known as a patrol lady for St Comgall’s Primary School in Antrim.

The pair had been travelling in a grey coloured Citroen C1 car which was in collision with a silver coloured Ford Focus at the Moneyrod Road junction.

A man and woman travelling in the second car sustained non-life

On social media last night a friend of Mrs Clyde asked that anyone hoping to attend a prayer service for Mrs Clyde on Friday treat it as “a celebration, not a mourn”.

On Facebook a friend said: “Hi everyone. Just to let you all know. Whoever would like to go to Lorraine Dobbin-Clyde’s funeral are all more than welcome. We are having a prayer service at St Comgalls chapel in Antrim on Friday 29th July 2016 at 12:30. I know she would love to see everyone there ❤️

“We would also like you to wear as much glitz and glamour as you would like. She has always said she wanted a celebration, not a mourn! she was a proper glamour puss!”

The funeral cortege will then proceed to Roselawn Crematorium for 2.30pm.

Meanwhile, also on Facebook, a relation of Ms McStravick - whose funeral is taking place at 11am on Thursday in Saint Macnissi’s in Randalstown - appealed for “no one to wear black”.

Inviting people who knew Ms McStravick to attend the service, the male relative said they would be “more than welcome to say your good byes”.

He added: “We have requested that NO one wears BLACK as she was a bubbly & out going person as u all know we are totally devastated and are going to miss her loads. Words can not describe how heart broken we are fly high sis you are going to be brightest star in the sky :) heaven has gained one hell of an angel :)”.

They are both to be buried this week – Michelle on Thursday and Lorraine the following day.

Michelle will be buried after the service in the adjoining churchyard.
