The film looks at more than just the Manchester United and Northern Ireland legend’s footballing prowess and delves into his struggle with alcoholism.

Described as the best player in the world by none other than Pelé, Best was as well known off the pitch for his rock and roll lifestyle, which ultimately became a life-long battle with alcohol.

Known as the ‘Fifth Beatle’, Best’s style and charm meant he was frequently linked romantically with Miss World winners and once famously quipped: “I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered.”

Unfortunately Best’s flamboyant ways would catch up with him, something he reflected on when he said: “I was born with a great gift, and sometimes with that comes a destructive streak. Just as I wanted to outdo everyone when I played, I had to outdo everyone when we were out on the town”.

Oscar nominated producer John Battsek and director Daniel Gordon got together again for the film after their acclaimed ESPN Films’ documentary ‘Hillsborough’ was nominated for an Emmy.

What the new film delivers is an often heart-breaking portrait of one of the world’s truly great sporting talents.

The Belfast premiere on Thursday will be followed by a screening at the Audi Dublin International Film Festival on February 18 in Cineworld Dublin before general release in the UK and Ireland on Friday, February 24.
