Tweeting about everything from teddy bears and rubber ducks to his eating and drinking habits, the Sinn Fein president’s musings are also described on the party’s website as giving “an insight into his private life”.

He is the second person, after reality-TV star Kim Kardashian, to release a book based on their Twitter account offerings.

The Sinn Fein website’s bookshop is advertising the publication, priced at £6.85 and available from January 29, as a compilation “selected by the man himself”.

It continues: “This little book shows the lighter side of his personality and allows the reader some insight into his private life. The inevitable ‘selfies’ are included showing that many years experience of politics have taught him not to take himself too seriously.”

One of his many tweets said: “Nuada (his dog) & moi out walking across fields. Disturb a rabbit eating dindins. Shredded cabbage! How did it get here?”
