Glenn family await post-mortem of body found in Foyle

A post-mortem examination is due to take place tomorrow, the family told the News Letter earlier today.

The search for Jack Glenn has been ongoing since he entered the river on February 2.

The remains were recovered at approximately 1.30pm today.

Over the past seven weeks, family and friends of the young man, supported by emergency and rescue services and hundreds of volunteers, have been tirelessly patrolling the river and shoreline.

Throughout that time, there have been regular vigils close to the river, during which local people prayed for the recovery of Jack’s remains.

Relatives and friends are waiting on official confirmation on whether the remains recovered were indeed Jack’s.

A PSNI spokesman said: “Police in Derry/Londonderry can confirm that a body was recovered from the River Foyle this afternoon.”

The Glenn family over recent weeks have been helping the relatives and search teams looking along the Foyle for 18-year-old Dean Millar, also from Londonderry, since he disappeared earlier this month.

A spokesperson for Mourne River Search and Rescue, who have been helping with the search, said: “At approximately 1.30pm today, teams engaged in the search for Jack and Dean recovered a body from the River Foyle.” The spokesperson added: “We would ask you all to keep both families in your thoughts and prayers at this time.”
