Great news after woman contacts police ‘safe and well’ after sandals and towel found on rocks at beauty spot

A search was launched last night after clothing was found on rocks at a NI beauty spot.

In a post on Facebook, Causeway Coast Community said: "❗❗❗❗ Items of clothing have been found by the Herring Pond, Portstewart".

The post added: "A search by HM Coastguard and PSNI is underway.

"If you have any information about the clothing, please contact the Coastguard or PSNI.

Later a comment on the post from the author 'Causeway Coast Community' said: "The search at The Herring Pond, Portstewart has been stood down".

In a statement a PSNI spokesman said: “Police received a report of a concern for safety in the Portmore Road area of Portstewart last night, Wednesday 27 May.

“It was reported, just after 8.45pm, that items – namely a towel and sandals – had been found near the sea.

“Colleagues from the Coastguard searched an area along the coast. Thankfully, there were no signs of anyone in danger.

“A female later contacted officers to confirm she had left some items behind, and that she was safe and well”.
