Homes evacuated after south Belfast hoax alert
The security alert ran from midnight on Saturday to around 4.30am on Sunday, with army bomb experts declaring the scene safe.
Inspector Darren Hardy said: “This hoax device caused massive inconvenience, disruption and upset for the local community, including many elderly and vulnerable people. We are keen to hear from anyone with information or who may have witnessed the hoax device being left in the area.”

Hide AdMeanwhile, police said that a security alert in the area of Carrickfergus’ Lancasterian Street and Albert Road areas on Saturday resulted in homes being evacuated, but that a suspicious object there turned out to be “nothing untoward”.
