Homes evacuated after suspect device found in NI town

The security alert is now over after a number of homes were evacuated after a suspect device was found in an NI town this evening.

It is understood the device, at Gamblestown near Lurgan, may be have been a grenade.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “The security alert at the Gamblestown Park area of Craigavon is now over.

Police attended a report of a suspicious object this afternoon (Friday 14th May) and an old, deactivated grenade was removed from the scene.

“A number of residents who were evacuated from their homes have now returned to their properties.

“Police would like to thank those impacted for their cooperation.”

DUP Cllr Mark Baxter said: “I am utterly shocked at the news coming through from Gamblestown park today and residents are quite rightly concerned at the events in this quiet residential area.
