Ice warning across Northern Ireand this morning

A yellow ice warning is in place for Northern Ireland until 9am, with forecasters advising slippery patches are likely to form on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths.

The Met Office has warned that icy patches are likely to form on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Some longer journey times are possible and some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces are possible, the forecaster added.

The warning comes as the UK country recovers from the impact of the Beast from the East and Storm Emma which brought a deep cold snap and snow and ice last week.

The PSNI warned on Twitter this morning: “Be extra careful on the roads this morning everyone, icy patches possible on some routes. Reduce your speed.”

Trafficwatch NI said that salting of scheduled roads was undertaken yesterday evening with further salting this morning where considered necessary. It too urged caution.
