In pictures - Poignant parade for murdered Orangemen

Today's parade in memory of two Orangemen murdered during the Troubles has been described as 'particularly poignant'.

The annual march organised by Ulster Defenders of the Realm LOL 710 to remember Brothers Fred Starrett and James Cummings, who were brutally murdered by republican terrorists, took place on Saturday morning.

The men were both members of the Ulster Defence Regiment and were on duty when they were murdered on February 24, 1988 at the then security gate in Royal Avenue.

They were also members of lodges in Ballymacarrett No 6 District; Banner of the Cross LOL 1310 and Johnston’s Golden Star LOL 1934, respectively.

A spokesman for the lodge said: “This event is particularly poignant in this centenary year of the Somme when so many young men give their lives in the cause of freedom. At this annual parade we remember two who made the same sacrifice for freedom over 70 years later - we remember them all with pride”.
