Integrated primary gets go-ahead in Co Down

Education Minister John O'Dowd has approved a development proposal for Killyleagh Primary School, Co Down, to transform from a controlled primary school to controlled integrated.

He said: “I am satisfied that sufficient evidence has been provided to support the transformation. This includes the results of a vote where parents supported the transformation to integrated status.”

Meanwhile, the minister approved a development proposal to close Evish Primary School in Strabane.

He said over the years “the school has suffered from declining enrolments and financial difficulties”.
