It has been a busy start to the year for Lisnamurrican YFC

The club would like to pass on this message: “Thank you to everyone who attended our 75th anniversary dinner, what a milestone for the club, and here’s to the next 75 years. We hope all in attendance had a great night and enjoyed looking back at the history of the club along with us, and celebrating the night in style. Thanks from club committee and members for all support in any way over the past 75 years, to make it possible where we stand today. Here’s to the next 75 years.”

An amazing amount was raised for Macmillan Cancer and a huge thanks must go to everyone who bought and sold raffle tickets and donated prizes at the club dinner in January.

A cheque for £1,195.30 was received by Margaret Johnston from Macmillan Cancer. Margaret explained to club members how the money would be used and thanked them for their fundraising efforts.

Monday 25th January saw all the club posts being declared vacant with the AGM taking place with all roles being successfully filled for the year 2016/2017. Officers will up take their roles on 16th April.

All the current committee would like to wish new office bearers the best. Current club leader Joe Adams would like to thank the current committee for all their work and commitment throughout the past year.

February saw Lisnamurrican Young Farmers’ Club’s enthusiastic cast taking to the stage with their performance for the arts festival titled the big beach games 2016. Unfortunately the cast did not make it through to the gala but the club’s performance was highly commended.

The cast will be performing again on Friday 25th March for an event being organised by Randalstown YFC in aid of Parkinson’s.

Various meeting have been taking place over the winter months including a club exchange with City of Derry YFC with 60 Lisnamurrican YFC members travelling to the Jet Centre, Coleraine, to meet the exchangee club. This was a great night’s craic and many friendships were made.

A club spokesperson said: “Well done to County Antrim Young Farmers for organising yet another successful big night, which took place on Saturday 27th February in Tullyglass Hotel. Well done to all the teams who participated in the cube, and a great effort was put in from team members from Lisnamurrican YFC Chrissy, Jonny, Michael and Jason.”

The committee and members of Lisnamurrican Young Farmers’ Club would like to invite you to their annual parents and friends night which will take place on Saturday 16th April in St Patrick’s Church Hall, Broughshane at 7.30pm. The evening will contain: Performances from the club choir, performance of arts festival drama, sketches, club scandal, performance of one act drama and the club leaders report. A light supper will be served at the interval. It will be a great night out for all the family and the club hope to see you there.

It’s hard to believe Lisnamurrican YFC are nearly at the end of their 75th anniversary year, but like every other summer the tasks do not stop and this year will be no different for members of Lisnamurrican YFC. They will be attending many competition days, barbecues, days out and supporting other club sports nights.

Congratulations must go to club members Melissa Millar who received third in her age group 21-25 for demonstration and presentation competition and Joe Adams and Alan Adams for gaining a place in their age groups in the final for the Ulster Young Farmer competition, and the club wish them luck in the final which  will take place in the weeks ahead.
