Jail for Belfast man who made threats to kill girlfriend's landlord

Tomas Daniel Foster, 29, of Stewart Street in the Markets district of the city, pleaded guilty on the morning of his trial to two charges of making threats to kill, common assault and possessing an offensive weapon.

Belfast Crown Court heard that the offences related to two incidents which happened last year at a house in the Broadway area of south Belfast.

Defence barrister Kelly Doherty said the first incident on July 11, 2015 was “made in the heat of the moment’’ after Foster found “sexually explicit text messages between the woman and the landlord’’.

The court heard that when he walked into the house six days later and “saw his girlfriend and her landlord in an embrace he lost control of himself’’.

Foster was sentenced to 18 months concurrent on the two counts of making threats to kill, with the sentence split between half in custody and half on licence following release. He also received concurrent sentences of 15 months for common assault and nine months for possession of the machete.
