Lorry rolls along streets and crashes into shopping centre

This is the striking image of a lorry after it collided with a Londonderry shopping centre at the weekend.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which unfolded at around 4.45am on Sunday.

It had rolled away while it was being unloaded, and an investigation is now underway to establish the exact cause of the accident.

The vehicle had been in Ferryquay Street, and then travelled along Linenhall Street and Newmarket Street before hitting the wall of the Foyleside Shopping Centre on Orchard Street.

Police said: “Damage was caused to a parked car and significant damage caused to a number of street signs and bollards during the incident.”

There were no reports of any injuries.

They asked anyone who can assist them to contact officers in Strand Road, adding they “are particularly keen to speak with three young males who were in the area of Ferryquay Street around the time”.
