Lough Neagh Rescue save over 16 people including a heavily pregnant woman in last month

It’s been a busy month for Lough Neagh Rescue after emergency call-outs led to the rescue of more than 16 people on seven boats, including a heavily pregnant woman.

The life-saving charity’s newest crew also embarked on their maiden rescue and was congratulated on “a very quick and professional response”.

A 30ft boat lost engine power around the mouth of the Sixmile Water late in August.

But an incident report said Antrim lifeboat was quickly launched, the boat was secured and brought back to Antrim Marina jetty and all three persons, including a pregnant woman, were safety brought to shore.

As well as this rescue, LNR also saved one person on a 16ft motorboat suffering engine trouble, a 16ft motor boat at Toome Bay that had suffered engine failure and a 27ft motor boat that got disoriented going into Antrim Bay.

Two people on a 30ft motor cruiser in difficulty around the three islands area of Toome Bay, were rescued by Ardboe and Antrim lifeboats while Kinnego was put on standby.

An operation on September 12 saw Ardboe and Kinnego lifeboats rush to the aid of six people on board a small speed boat that was taking on water in Kinnego Bay, but luckily the vessel made it safely to shore before they were needed.

The latest rescue on Saturday, September 26, saw a yacht with two crew towed back to Kinnego Marina. It reportedly got into difficulty around Tolans Sound area.
