Major blaze at old Police Federation club near Carrickfergus

More than 30 firefighters have been tackling a major blaze at the old Police Federation NI (PFNI) country club at Kilroot.

Shortly after 10pm on Monday a spokesman for Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) said the fire had been brought under control but was still not extinguished.

It is understood the premises, not far from Kilroot power station, was formerly owned by the PFNI but had been derelict for some time.

Four fire appliances and an aerial platform were deployed to deal with fire the fire, and a total of 34 firefighters were still at the scene around 10pm.

It is not believed that anyone has been injured and the main A2 Carrickfergus to Whitehead road has remained open.

There are no further details at this time.
