Man arrested in Dublin crime gang raids

Ten homes have been raided and one man arrested in the second Garda operation against a major crime outfit.

Properties in Kevin Street and Pearse Street in central Dublin were searched in the dawn blitz.

About 80 gardai were involved.

The operation was launched two days after a high-profile move on relatives and associates of murdered gang figure David Byrne.

He was believed to be a key player in the Irish wing of an international cartel.

Byrne was shot dead in the Regency Hotel in Dublin last month during a boxing weigh-in.

During the raids more than €50,000 in cash was recovered along with jewellery including top-end watches worth more than €20,000 and some drugs.

Gardai also said GPS tracker devices which can be fitted to vehicles were also seized, along with financial documentation.
