Man dies after Co Armagh collision

A 20-year-old man has died after a serious morning collision between a car and plant machinery outside Portadown.

A PSNI spokesman said he was the driver of a red Peugeot 207 car and the collision took place shortly before 10am.

He said the driver of the plant machinery was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

“The Derryanvil Road remains closed,” added the PSNI spokesman.

DUP Councillor Johnny Buckley said “locals are very shocked at the news”.

“The young man had worked for a farming contractor in the Portadown area.” he said.

“Everyone is devastated at what happened this morning. My thoughts and prayers are with the family of the young man and with those involved in the accident. They will need as much comfort as possible from the community.”

Earlier a spokesman from the Ambulance service said they received a call to attend the incident at 9.45am.

He said a rapid response paramedic attended the scene at 9.53am.

“One person has been taken to Craigavon Area Hospital with serious injury from the car,” he added.

“The second patient was treated for non-life threatening injuries.”
