Man escapes injury in 'mindless' arson attack on NI home - 'container containing flammable liquid was placed against back door of house and set alight'

An investigation has been launched after an arson attack at a house early this morning at Glenhull Walk in Omagh.

Detective Inspector Michael Winters said: “Officers received a report of a fire to the rear of the house at around 1.50am on Thursday morning.

"It is believed at this time that a container with flammable liquid inside was placed against the back door of the house and set alight.

"NIFRS personnel attended and extinguished the fire which caused considerable damage to the door and smoke damage inside the house.

"The male occupant escaped the house unharmed after being alerted to the fire by a neighbour.

“This was a mindless attack which endangered the lives of the occupant and his neighbours.

"We are working to establish a motive for this incident and I would appeal to anyone who noticed any suspicious activity in the area at the time of the fire or anyone with any information which could assist us with our enquiries to contact detectives in Omagh on 101 quoting reference number 95 14/05/20.

"Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
