Man pleads guilty over Fermanagh explosives find

A 45-year old man today admitted a series of terrorist-related offences linked to a major explosives and ammunition find close to the border.

Barry Francis Joseph Petticrew, who was arrested by police in October 2014 following a search at farm buildings in Co Fermanagh, appeared at Belfast Crown Court on Friday.

Petticrew, who is originally from Swanlinbar in Co Cavan but whose address was given as HMP Maghaberry, initially faced five charges arising from the raid at the property near the village of Kinawley.

However, after his barrister asked that he be re-arraigned on three of the five charges, two of the charges were left on the books, not to be proceeded with.

Petticrew pleaded guilty to three offences on October 8, 2014 - namely possessing explosives with intent to endanger life, possessing articles for use in terrorism, and possessing ammunition with intent.

He admitted possessing the following items: improvised explosive devices, timer power units, a detonating cord, a coffee grinder, explosive filling, a mortar base, fertiliser, disposable suits and rubber gloves, dust masks, cutting discs, a glue gun, electrical tape and a quantity of ammunition

After Petticrew entered guilty pleas, his barrister asked that reports be compiled ahead of sentencing.

Judge Gordon Kerr QC then remanded Petticrew back into custody and informed him he would be sentenced for the terrorist offences in October.
