Motorcyclist dies after road collision

A 19-year-old male from Kilrea has died following a road traffic collision involving a motorcycle and a lorry on the Agivey Road, Aghadowey yesterday.

A second male was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, which are believed to be serious.

Police said the man who died was the pillion passenger on the motorcycle.

He is the 22nd person to die on Ulster’s roads this year.

The seriously injured man was riding the bike.

Inspector Ian Armour would appeal to anyone who was travelling on the Agivey Road yesterday at approximately 5pm and may have witnessed this incident to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on the non-emergency number 101.

A PSNI spokesman said it is anticipated that the Agivey Road with remain closed for some time and motorists should seek alternative routes if possible.
