Mystery of coat of arms found at Limavady dump

A Limavady councillor is hoping the public can help solve the mystery behind a coat of arms left at a civic amenity site in Limavady.

DUP Councillor Alan Robinson said he was contacted by a man who spotted the coat of arms at the facility on the Ballyquin Road on Wednesday.

He said the man wanted to know why it was being dumped, and suggested it was a Royal coat of arms which may had come from a courthouse, or some sort of government building.

In a bid to shed some light on the situation, Councillor Robinson went to the civic amenity site to see the coat of arms for himself.

“It is a very striking piece, about three and half to four foot high. It was lying against the wall,” he said.

“From what I was told it came in on a van or lorry and was left off for dumping. Some of the workers pulled it out and there it was - up against the wall.”

Councillor Robinson said while the coat of arms looks very solid it’s actually made of thin plastic.

On the back ‘DoE Royal’ is written.

“Was it ripped off a building and stolen; we don’t know,” added Councillor Robinson, “but if anyone knows anything about it, or where it has come from, contact my office on 028 777 69191.”
