New agency picks up FASA's old anti-drug services

Contracts to handle anti-drug projects in Northern Ireland have been given to a new agency, after the previous holder revealed last month that it had encountered major financial problems.

FASA – also known as the Forum for Action on Substance Abuse / Suicide Awareness – said on March 9 that the issues it was facing were “immediate and terminal”.

The Public Health Agency (PHA) announced on Monday that a new group, Extern, will now be doing the work FASA had formerly done.

The PHA said that people “will still be able to access and receive the same services as before”.
