NI politicians wish Boris Johnson a speedy recovery from coronavirus symptoms

Prime Minister Boris Johnson remains in intensive care this morning after his coronavirus symptoms “worsened”, Downing Street has said.

A spokesman said he was moved on the advice of his medical team and was receiving “excellent care”.

Mr Johnson has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise “where necessary”, the spokesman added.

The prime minister, 55, was admitted to hospital in London with “persistent symptoms” on Sunday evening.

The Queen has been kept informed about Mr Johnson’s health by No 10, according to Buckingham Palace.

His rapid health decline has been met with shock by NI politicians - including deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill.

In a Tweet she said: “Wishing Boris Johnson and all those battling Covid 19 every best wish to a speedy recovery”.

Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Brandon Lewis also tweeted: “Thoughts are with @BorisJohnson, Carrie and his family this evening. He’s a fighter and I know is in excellent hands - being looked after by our incredible NHS and it’s staff. Wishing the Boss all the very best for a speedy recovery”.
