North West 200: Tributes pour in for Lancashire rider Malachi Mitchell-Thomas

Tributes have poured in on social media for tragic Malachi Mitchell Thomas who died following a crash at the North West 200 motorcycle races.

The 20-year-old rider from Chorley in Lancashire crashed his bike during the Supertwins race.

He had been riding for the Cookstown BE Racing team.

Mr Thomas was treated by medical staff at the scene but died from his injuries.

The accident happened on the course at Dhu Varren, Portrush.

On Facebook Robert Burrows said: “Devastated is an understatement, to have u stay at our house last weekend and you worked on your other love your car, I just can’t believe it such a talent and fantastic young guy, you will be missed so so much,sleep easy dude you will never be forgotten.”

Also on Facebook Andy Neill said: “What a talented rider, the first ive seen of him the past few days at the north west 200, and he clearly made a great impression...RIP”.

Rachel Morrison also said: “Such a beautiful week this year for the North West 200 but sadly a fatality of a young rider today brings it all home to many. RIP young man my heart goes out to all. A mother and fathers son so sad”.

And Sarah Dixon said: “Devastating news. Thoughts and prayers to Kev and Vicky and rest of the family. God knows how ther Guna get through this RIP Malachi”

Meanwhile a statement from the organisers of The International North West 200 released this morning has given an update on the condition of riders who remain in hospital.

They said “Ryan Farquhar remains seriously ill in intensive care in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.

“Nico Mawhinney is in a stable condition in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast.

“Ben Wilson has returned to hospital in England for treatment to a fractured leg.”
