Ombudsman rejects police complaint

The Police Ombudsman has rejected criticism of a PSNI officer after finding she spent many hours reviewing both documentary and CCTV evidence.

Following a neighbour dispute one of the parties complained that the officer had refused to record a witness statement from his wife and failed to properly review the evidence he had produced.

However, the ombudsman accepted she had emailed the complainant’s solicitor twice in an attempt to have a statement from his wife recorded but did not get any response.

The ombudsman found that the officer had reviewed almost 150 pages and hours of CCTV footage related to the dispute.

It was also found there was no misconduct in the officer advising the complainant that she would consider making a recommendation that all parties involved in the dispute be bound over to keep the peace.
