She has effectively been punished for having no financial means or resources to enable her to travel to England for a safe and legal abortion, a position in which she should not have been put in the first place.

Abortion law in Northern Ireland is over 150 years old and a failure to women’s reproductive health. I yet again urge our politicians to grasp this opportunity in the next assembly term to positively impact on the lives of women who find themselves in these very difficult circumstances.

FPA will continue to offer a pregnancy choices counselling, support and information service which gives women a safe environment to discuss all options, and supports them to come to their own decision.

If you’re pregnant and not sure what you want to do and you live in Northern Ireland, FPA can offer non-judgmental and non-directive counselling and information on all your options to help you decide what to do.
