Abortion jail term for young woman is an outrage

It is outrageous and a total disgrace that a young woman now has a criminal record for accessing and using early medical abortion pills due to an outdated law.

She has effectively been punished for having no financial means or resources to enable her to travel to England for a safe and legal abortion, a position in which she should not have been put in the first place.

Abortion law in Northern Ireland is over 150 years old and a failure to women’s reproductive health. I yet again urge our politicians to grasp this opportunity in the next assembly term to positively impact on the lives of women who find themselves in these very difficult circumstances.
