All the IRA victims ask for is justice

I write with regard to the comments (unwarranted in my view) of Professor John Brewer (March 11) in relation to your headline and coverage the previous day of the annual victims and survivors conference.

Dr Brewer does not make it clear what exactly he means by ‘conflict journalism’; perhaps it is any questioning of the current ‘peace process’ narrative?

With regard to his statement that no one person represents all victims, Ann Travers has never claimed or suggested she speaks for all victims.

Your letters page of March 11 clearly shows that Ms Travers is not alone in her understandable upset at the appearance of the Deputy/Joint First Minister, whose Provisional IRA caused most of the victimhood.

There is nothing to suggest Dr Brewer has any first hand experience or knowledge of, or sympathy for, the ongoing suffering and hurt of victims.

Perhaps it would be best if he was to return to his academic ivory tower.

All the victims are asking for is justice, that most basic yearning of the human heart, yet it appears more elusive than ever.
