Where do the present checks between Northern Ireland and the Republic take place?

At the moment, the two jurisdictions manage different currencies, excise duties and other tax rates, without border posts and without difficulty.

My suggestion then is, that whatever new checks come in on leaving the EU, they should be managed in the same way.
