Brexit threatens to break up the UK

Unionists' undecided about Brexit should consider the impact of a leave vote on the UK unity.

The poll on Scottish independence was won narrowly. Nationalists were 6% away from achieving their aims. If the UK undergoes the major constitutional change of leaving the EU the SNP has pledged and will have credible reason to hold another referendum.

The economic chaos after Brexit would ensure Scotland would vote for independence. Likewise in Northern Ireland, we know 20% of those from a nationalist background currently favour remaining part of the UK, making a united Ireland impossible. Leaving the EU would mean they’d favour Irish unity. The Leave campaign asks us to risk the breakup of the UK for few tangible benefits.
