Britain prayed for Dunkirk deliverance

It is a solemn and indisputable fact that the multitudes of British people who queued outside Britain's cathedrals, abbeys and parish churches on 26th May, 1940 in answer to King George VI call for a day of national prayer far exceeded the numbers of soldiers trapped on the beaches at Dunkirk.

In this deeply secular age, when the idol of unbelief commands obedience in the public square, it is fashionable to omit any reference to both the impact and response to the king’s entreaty.

You can either interpret the “miracle” of Dunkirk as a secular event or, with faith in Almighty God’s over-ruling providence, praise His holy name for divine deliverance.
