Christ's death and resurrection are inextricably linked

It needs to be made clear that Jesus did not set a date on which His followers were to remember His death as Colin states but rather Jesus inaugurated the Lord’s Supper, the meal of the new covenant (1 Cor. 11 vs25) by which Christians were to remember His atoning death (Luke 22 vs19; 1 Cor. 11 vs23-25).

Colin also states that it was by Jesus’ death salvation was brought and it is that we are called to remember, not Christ’s resurrection.

What then does he make of 2 Timothy 2 vs8 – ‘Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David’?

Paul makes it plain that if Christ has not been raised Christians are still in their sins (1 Cor. 15 vs17) ie. without resurrection there is no redemption. Both Christ’s death and resurrection are inextricably linked and cannot be separated in the economy of God’s salvation plan (1Cor. 15 vs3-4). What single message marked the preaching of the Apostles? The death, burial and resurrection of Christ, that is what they preached, the apostolic preaching of Christ in His death and His resurrection.

That was their message. They preached Christ crucified and risen again. They did not separate the two and neither should we.
