Clerics have stood for Protestant truth

The two Lisburn clerics, Rev Eddie Coulter of Lambeg Parish and Rev Michael Davidson of Railway Street Presbyterian Church, ought to be commended upon their stand for Protestant truth regarding their refusal to be involved in ecumenical coat trailing in the city very recently.

This year being the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther nailing his 95 theses to the church door at Wittenberg, they are just being consistent in their adherance to both the 39 Articles and the Westminster Confession of Faith respectively.

Ministers of the gospel throughout Northern Ireland should take this example to heart. Without truth there is no justification; for we are justified by faith, giving us peace with God. Without truth there is no santification; for the Lord Jesus himself says, “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth” John 17 v 17. Without truth there is no salvation for “God hath chosen us to salvation through sanctification of the Holy Spirit and belief of the Truth” 1 Peter 1 v 2. Holy Scripture encourages us to ‘buy the truth and sell it not” Proverbs 23 v 23.

Let us do so without apology and not allow political correctness make us shallow in practising our evangelical and reformed convictions but always keep the glory of God foremost.
