Colum Eastwood should focus first and foremost on Irish freedom

Colum Eastwood (October 5) stated: 'The people of Northern Ireland and Scotland clearly and democratically made a decision to remain members of the European Union... The message we sent to Theresa May and her band of Brexiteers is that we do not consent and we will not consent to being taken out of Europe.'

When did Irish people in Northern Ireland clearly and democratically vote for Partition?

When did we freely and knowingly consent to being part of the people of Northern Ireland rather than being part of the Irish nation?

What does “consent” mean when people in fact have no real say, as in being the “minority” in Northern Ireland for 100 years?

Eastwood needs to focus first and foremost on Irish freedom. Unionists are well able to look after their own freedom without his help.

At present we are basically told that Irish right to national freedom must be achieved and exercised with and subject to the agreement and consent of the unionist “majority”.

Try telling unionists that their right to freedom must be achieved and exercised with and subject to the agreement and consent of an Irish majority and see what happens.
