Phelim McAleer: The rise of the violent transgenders (but we’re not allowed to talk about it)
Many of my friends and neighbours work in Hollywood. That doesn’t mean they get a bus every day to that part of Los Angeles.

Nowadays working in Hollywood often means working in cheaper locations such as Canada, Georgia (the state not the country) or Ireland, Romania and Serbia or even more recently Georgia, the country.
But to be honest, these days working in Hollywood can often mean not working at all. Studios only need a few people to go to foreign lands and the streaming boom is over as companies retract and try to deal with the fact that people are watching less television and cinemas are dying.
There are many external reasons for the decline of the theatrical movie but filmmakers should also look to themselves and the movies they are making. I was reminded of that this week when it was revealed who had been arrested for a frenzied hammer attack on the Cincinnati home of vice president JD Vance. What caught my eye was that the male arrested for the destruction had recently changed his name from William to Julia.
Now the person is innocent until proven guilty but the life story fits a pattern that we are not allowed to talk about in the US - the rise of the very violent transgenders. An awful lot of high profile and very vile crimes are being carried out by people who also claim they were born in the wrong body.
Back when people went to the movies Hollywood recognised that there was something inherently violent in many of the people who claimed to be transgender.
They recognised the condition as a serious mental illness which was often accompanied by other forms of crazy - including violence.
In cinematic history, two of the most popular crime thrillers immortalised transgender killers as central figures, equating their bizarre desire to embody womanhood as a central part of a violent persona.
Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho centres on Norman Bates, a creepy motel owner whose deep-seated yearning to become his mother – a symbol of feminine power – fuels his murderous impulses.
Jonathan Demme's The Silence of the Lambs was centred around Buffalo Bill, a transgender man consumed by his desire to become a woman. Denied surgery due to psychological evaluations, Buffalo Bill channels his desperation into a horrific plan: abducting and flaying women to sew a "woman suit" from their skin.
These films masterfully explored how the killers' transgender aspirations become the engine of their violent frenzies.
Nowadays Hollywood has stopped telling such truths. Now the killer/villain in a movie is likely to be a Bible-wielding Christian even as more and more of America's killers seem to be caught up in the transgender madness.
Tyler Robinson is accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Prosecutors charged him with aggravated murder, for what they described as a politically motivated attack, with evidence including texts to his transgender partner expressing hatred for Kirk's anti-trans views. Robinson was arrested shortly after the killing with DNA linking him to the murder weapon.
The trial has yet to take place, and Robinson has not been convicted of anything.
Then there was Robin Westman, a 23-year-old man from Minneapolis who wanted to become a woman, who murdered two children aged eight and 10, at the Church of the Annunciation during a school mass. He injured 17 others.
Nicholas Roske is a 29-year-old who identifies as a transgender woman named Sophie. He attempted to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh in 2022, arriving at the judge's house armed with a gun, knife, zip ties, and burglary tools.
Roske was apparently motivated by Kavanaugh’s perceived conservative leanings. Roske, who requested female pronouns in court filings, pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was jailed.
Audrey Hale, a 28-year-old woman “identifying as male”, killed three children and three adults on March 27, 2023, at The Covenant School in Nashville before being killed by police. There are multiple other examples but you have to dig to find the transgender links to the violence. Law enforcement do their best to hide the connection.
They refused for years to publish Audrey Hale’s “trans manifesto” justifying her shootings. The leftist-dominated media downplay or completely ignore transgender connections to serious crime. It took an independent journalist, Andy Ngo, to investigate and expose a trans vegan cult that stands accused of killing six people in a violent crime spree.
Hollywood and the media used to be more honest. Now they spend their time and limited resources not covering crime but covering up for violent criminals. And they spend the rest of the time wondering why no one wants to buy their product.
