David Ford: Sympathy with the people of Brussels

The proximity of Belgium to our country and the many cultural links bring these acts of terror home.

Alongside our shock, sadness and sympathy with the people of Brussels, these attacks bring a determination to not allow terrorism to undermine democracy and its very principles.

Today’s acts were attacks on innocent members of the public – workers, shoppers and tourists. The message must be solidarity against those who would carry out such terror.
