Archie was an empathetic, caring, and good-humoured credit to the Royal Ulster Constabulary
‘Archie’ as he was universally known, was indeed a much respected senior RUC officer.
I had the privilege, as a young officer, of working for him when he was Assistant Chief Constable of ‘B’ Department (personnel and training).

He personified a cherished tradition of service in the Royal Ulster Constabulary and was extremely proud of the force and all who served in it.
He will be missed by those who worked with him and learnt much from him, not least the importance of a good sense of humour.
Paul Kernaghan CBE QPM, Peterborough, England, Chief Constable of Hampshire Constabulary from 1999-2008
