Boris Johnson would sell his own granny – and that bodes ill for our Union

In the grand scheme of things, such as the horrendous pandemic, the free television licence for 75-and-over pensioners comes pretty far down the list of government priorities.

But the pre-election promise given by Boris Johnson has been broken, and the BBC will get its 30 pieces of silver.

When a Prime Minister who would sell his granny for a nine-bob note reneges on a declaration of assurance that pensioners over-75 would receive a free television licence, it should alert First Minister Arlene Foster that, in so far as the Union is concerned, Boris Johnson is not someone from whom you would buy a second-hand car.
