Councillor Carson messed up when making his point but we can still ask what it was that provoked God

John Carson of Ballymena (Apr 3) handed a strawman on a plate to his adversaries by failing to articulate his point correctly and then making the situation worse by apologising.

‘Totally misinterpreted’ — DUP councillor John Carson who blamed Coronavirus on abortion and gay marriage says comments were picked up wrong)

The pestilence is global and and so few people are going to buy the idea that it was sent by God exclusively because of laws passed in Northern Ireland. But whether or not one believes in God, the scale of the current pestilence, and its timing in relation to the ever increasing prevalence of anti-Christian laws and attitudes in Western Christendom, suggests that people should at the very least be asking themselves what has suddenly brought this on.

So far, the worst areas hit have been the EU in particular and Western Christendom more generally, although that may as yet change.

We just don’t know. But at any rate, we don’t see anybody in authority suggesting that we turn to God for help, and neither are we seeing the mainstream religious leaders questioning where mankind may have gone astray such as to have incurred God’s wrath on this particular occasion.

Should they not be asking “what was the straw that broke the camel’s back?”.

It would be wise not to get too presumptuous about this matter just because John Carson messed up.

Meanwhile, as the angel of death passes through, one cannot afford to be complacent just because they have opposed the recent immorality legislation that has swept through Western Christendom.

Nobody is free of sin, and sin comes in a wide range. In the Book of Exodus, the ones who were safe were those who had the blood of the lamb sprinkled on the lintel and two side posts of their door.

The people today can speculate on what provoked God’s wrath on this occasion, but they also need to be considering what the current criteria might be in order to evade the angel of death.
