Flag did not fly at Stormont because of the intolerance of republicans, yet it was the IRA who were friends of the Nazis

Last Friday across the United Kingdom we commemorated the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day, and by extension, the defeat of fascism in Europe.

Regrettably, we saw a similar trait of fascism in a different form from Stormont; namely the failure to fly our national flag on the very day we celebrated our freedom.

It was yet another example of why sharing executive power with IRA/Sinn Fein is as illogical as it is immoral.

It is ironic that as republicans displayed their rabid intolerance to anything British; the very reason why they were able to do so was because of the supreme sacrifice paid by our soldiers, seamen and airmen from all over these islands and further afield to secure that very freedom for generations.

Fascism is alive and well, albeit under a different name, the old friends of the Nazis — the IRA.
