Is there a case for the Union? I am starting to wonder

I would like to add to Henry McKeown’s letter which I agree with.

Unionists regularly say they will put the case for the Union but to date I have not actually heard it stated (I’m beginning to wonder if it exists).

That surveys show 50% of people here don’t label themselves unionist or nationalist [Life and Times surveys, 2017-19] suggests a significant number could be convinced of the merits of a united Ireland (although where this demographic disappears to on voting day is another question as most voting is still orange and green). A united Ireland would allow them to escape the ‘them and us’ politics and free them from repetitive single issue elections regarding the border.

The Common Travel Area already allows Irish people to enter, work, live and vote in Britain as if it were an extension of their own country. A full international Dublin government with more flexible tax and spending powers (than Stormont) is said to be more responsive to local needs, like agriculture, than London.

And all this just a two hour drive down the road.

Never mind the ‘neutrals’ – maybe some unionists would be tempted by this!

Nationalism is already discussing these and other issues and will hit the ground running in the event of a border poll being called.

In response I don’t hear anything from unionism apart from an intention to put forward some vague case for the Union.
